Nightrain's
Collection
Carvin BBS ID:
Nightrain
This is a great
collection of newer Carvin guitars with the reissue pointy
headstock in a reverse configuration. So, even though these
guitars are all new, they have a great 80's look to them.
Some of these have
since moved on to new owners, but it's such a nice assortment,
they're definitely worth a look here. |

Above
is Nightrain's 2000 model DC135, which used to be part of
Bundy's Collection. It's finished in
Classic Sunburst on alder, with an alder body and tung-oiled maple neck.
Nightrain says:
"I
aquired this guitar totally unexpected. This one came from my good
friend Bundy. When He found out I lost my job, he placed this one up for
sale to help me. The buyer sent the money and also had this guitar sent
to me as well. Only Bundy knows who this person was, But I am Forever
Grateful to them."
In summer of 2004, Carvin
made a move that was welcomed by many of their customers: the return of
the early-90's style "pointed" headstock (read
more here). This was a limited-time
option, which identically replicated the headstock shape that was use in
1990 and 1991.
And this
is one of those special instruments; a 2004 Bolt+T with a
reverse-pointed headstock. It's finished in emerald green on swamp
ash, with maple fingerboard, chrome hardware, Wilkinson tremolo and dual
humbuckers/single coil pickup configuration.

Above is the
newest addition to Nightrain's collection. It's a 2006 DC747, which he
picked up at the Sacramento store while driving his big rig through town.
The finish is sapphire blue on quilted maple with a maple neck and alder body
sides. Other features include abalone block inlays, medium-jumbo stainless
steel frets and chrome hardware. Below is a closeup of the headstock, with
a truss rod cover dedicated to Nightrain's brother.

This DC145C
(below) was a recent purchase from another member. It's a 2005 model,
finished in sapphire blue on quilted maple. The body is mahogany, and it
has a 5-piece maple/walnut neck. Other features include an ebony
fingerboard with MOP block inlays and jumbo frets, black chrome hardware,
tung-oiled neck and coil splitters for the C22 humbuckers. This one has
since been sold.
This is a 2006 model
DC135T, and it's really one of the nicest ones on the site. It's alder
with a maple neck, and a quilted maple top. The finish is Carvins
wonderful Dragonburst, which has only been used on a few instruments so far, and it has a
matching headstock. The headstock itself, like all of Nightrain's Carvins,
is a reverse "pointy" version, which looks great with this finish. Other
features include a Birdseye maple fingerboard with black dots and stainless
steel jumbo frets, Sperzel tuners, and Wilkinson tremolo. Electronics
consist of a C22B humbucker, and a pair of AP11 single coils. Like the
DC145, this one has moved on.

This is Nightrain's 1987 Ultra V, which is going to be a restoration
project. It's all-maple, with a Pearl White finish.
Hardware is black chrome, with a Kahler Pro tremolo. The ebony
fingerboard has MOP block inlays. Electronics consist of an
M22N and an M22SD, with coil splitters and phase switching.

Here's
another nice vintage Carvin - in this case, a 1992 DC125C.
It has a poplar body with a maple neck through neck, which has
been tung-oiled. Finish is Pearl White with matching
headstock and the large Carvin logo. The fingerboard is
maple with
abalone dots. It
has black chrome
hardware, and a Floyd Rose tremolo, and an M22SD pickup.
Nightrain says:
"I got this one as
a side deal from Ebay. The guy had it listed for sale and as I
was the only one who enquired about it He offered it to me at an
unbelievable price. The only things missing was a trem arm which
I will be adding and it needs a replacement lock block in the
trem which I replaced. This one is one of my best
players."
The DC125 and the
Ultra V above have been sold to other Carvin enthusiasts. |

Next is this Bolt+, which was made in early 2006. It has a
mahogany body with a maple top finished in deep purple.
This one also has the re-issue reverse pointy headstock, which
looks great on this Bolt. Other features include a
Birdseye maple fingerboard with black dots on a maple neck,
chrome hardware, Straploks and Wilkinson tremolo.
Electronics consist of an M22SD in the bridge with an on/off
switch and a C22 in the bridge position.
This
one has since moved on to another Carvinite.

Although no longer part of his Collection, this Bolt kit is worth a
look. Although it's a kit, it was finished by Carvin in the
textured black (TXB) finish.
It's now part of
Bundy's Collection,
and can been seen on his page. |
